This year, we have a good blend of music. Now, let's see the year best albums...
20. Charice (Charice)
19. Raymond Vs. Raymond (Usher)
18. Light Me Up (The Pretty Reckless)
17. The Beginning (The Black Eyed Peas)
16. Last Train To Paris (Diddy-Dirty Money)
15. Soldier of Love (Sade)
14. Flesh Tone (Kelis)
13. A Year Without Rain (Selena Gomez & The Scene)
12. Body Talk (Robyn)
11. The Other Side of Down (David Archuleta)
If I was Rihanna, I would change the title LOUD to something else. The album doesn't really speak out loud but I do mean it in the best way. The Barbadian Dancehall swag that make it less loud but makes it more flavorful with songs like What's My Name and Man Down. At first listen, you may found it to be a little lost but when you get into the sound of the album, you will fall in love with it like I did. I seriously have to bounce off Archuleta to make sure that this make it into the top ten. I want to see more of this cheerful Rihanna not the dark Rihanna.
US R&B/Hip Hop Albums #1
Grammy - Beat Dance Recording (Only Girl)
9. Drake - Thank Me Later
There must be a reason Drake is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2011 Grammys, well it shows all over his album. Critics praised the album for Drake's introspective lyrics and he receive musical comparisons to the works of hip hop artists Kanye West and Kid Cudi. And people seems to like it, selling 447,000 copies in the first week and a month later was already certified plantinum. Maybe it was the lineup of artists that support him in the album including Alicia Keys, Jay Z, Lil Wayne & T.I. or maybe Drake is just a damn good artist.
Billboard 200 #1
Grammy - Best Rap Album
Grammy - Best Rap Solo Performance (Over)
Grammy - Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (Fancy)
8. Miley Cyrus - Can't Be Tamed
This may be the hardest to defend in the list but you just need to ignore her age, what she done, Hannah Montana, just everything and take a listen to the album and you find yourself to love it. The album is mainly influenced by pop dance records but it also have a handful of ballads that are clearly the highlights of the album. Songs like Stay and her own rendition of Every Rose Has It Torns will just swallow you into the mood of the song. Then songs like Forgiveness & Love and My Heart Beats of Love will make you think of 80's 90's rock and totally fits her voice. She said that this is the last pop album she will be making for a while, and I truly hope she use her advantage in ballads and rock sound for the next album so it to be her best one yet.
Billboard 200 #3
7. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Even I was surprise to see this sweet pop album being nominated for Album of The Year at the 2011 Grammys. But maybe that's the reason why it was nominated. Katy Perry know POP better than anybody else. It shows when "Firework" was the third single in a row to peak at the top of the charts. This is just an album that shouldn't make sense with lyrics like "You're an alien" and "I wanna see you're peacock, cock, cock" but the catchy melody just fix up the flaw and it works. Like I said, she KNOWS POP. I would like to say just stay the same and not change but 'pop' is changing. This album maybe 'Album of The Year' in 2010 but in her next album she needs to change into a more dance inspired album that will keep her in track. But I'm sure she would do fine.
Billboard 200 #1
Grammy - Album of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album
Grammy - Best Pop Collaborations With Vocals (California Gurls)
Grammy - Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (Teenage Dream)
6. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
When I listen to music, I just dropped everything I heard from gossips site. And that's how everyone should. So who cares about last year's accident at a certain MTV show, just take a listen and then judge. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy received general acclaim from music critics, earning praise for its varied musical style, opulent production quality, and West's dichotomous lyrical themes. Some may called it weird but the album just have the best production that create a good drama in the songs. For the lyrics, I have to admit that I just don't understand them. maybe I'm just to young to get into it but the critics approved so I will also. One more thing I like is that, he commit to tell the story and that includes bringing Nicki Minaj to narrate the opening sound, taking 11 guest singers into one song and making a 30 minute video for a single. Overall, It might be too much and crazy but again it WORKS.
Billboard 200 #1
5. Ke$ha - Animal
In 2009, Ke$ha debut with her catchy single, TiK TiK making her THE artist to look up for in 2010. And she delivers the hype with her debut album, Animal. Many criticized her for the overused of Auto-tune, making it hard to tell if she could actually sing. But in 2010, who cares about that. She debut in just the right time in 2010, the year of dance-pop. Thats means catchy auto--tune songs rules over great vocals on a ballad. The album debut at the top with sales of 152,000 (setting a record for digital sales of a number one album, at 76%). At the same time, TiK ToK was also at the top of the charts making it the first time since Leona Lewis, Spirit & Bleeding Love to have both the single and album at the top. The album produces four major singles with all of them making into the top ten in Billboard Hot 100 with the TiK ToK peaking at no.1.
Billboard 200 #1
4. Justin Bieber - My World 2.0
Many will argue for Justin being no. 4, but the album got a good balance of sales, fan favorites and also being a personal favorite of mine. My World 2.0 is a solid R&B-flavored pop album that is both surprising and amazing by a 16 years old boy. There is significance change from the first EP that made him a more defined artist and more likable. From the most matured of the pack, U Smile would please fans and would not disappoint the adults, to the poppest, Baby which secretly became a instant favorite for everybody. My world 2.0 have a good balance that is more than enough for fans and certainly amazed critics. The album even was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, joining singers like Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, John Mayer and Susan Boyle. He was also nominated for Best New Artist based on this album. Many afraid that as he's voice change and he'll grow that he will lose his charm. But I think he'll do fine as along as he continues what's his doing and that is to make more of his R&B dance pop style songs. With Usher guiding him and an army of fans, I don't think he will fail.
Billboard 200 #1
Grammy - Best Pop Vocal Album
3. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
"certainly need have no fear of a sophomore slump", Jessica Phillips wrote in Country Weekly of the album review. And the prediction was on point as the album is the third best selling album of the year and spawned three no. 1 country single. The album delivers their sweet melody mixed with beautiful songwriting with great production. They stayed using the award winning formula from their debut album which are a slew of mid- and uptempo love songs, sad ballads, and a couple of rocked-up good-time tunes, all self-written with some help from some of Nashville’s most respected writers. This isn't actually my top album of the year, but it receives great reviews, sales, and also a fan favorite. But I still think the album is a greatly produce album and they would have no problem going into the third.
Billboard 200 #1
Grammy - Album of The Year, Best Country Album
Grammy - Record Of The Year, Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals (for Need You Now, Single)
2. Eminem - Recovery
This is the second album in the top 10, and the fifth in the top 20 that I actually didn't listen to. I guess, it's right what Jesal Padania said, "One individual might completely love it, another hate it – for pretty much the same reasons... not his best, nor his worst, but either people will listen incessantly or barely at all. There is no middle ground" But this is still a momental album that brought Eminem back in the game. The album surely did well in both commercial and critical. As of December 2010, it receives 10 Grammy nomination including Album of The Year and Best Rap Album. It is also the second worldwide biggest selling album of 2010 just behind Lady GaGa's The Fame (Monster) with 5.7 million copies sold. Though the album was critic for being inconsistent (like his career), he had a very good year, and it proves that he is recovering.
Billboard 200 #1
Grammy - Album of The Year, Best Rap Album
Grammy - Record of The Year, Song of The Year, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, Best Rap Song, Best Short Form Music Video (Love The Way You Lie)
Grammy - Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Rap Song (Not Afraid)
1. Taylor Swift - Speak Now
Anybody 2010 Best list won't be perfect without an appearance by Swift's third studio album, Speak Now. It's a personal favorite, a fan favorite, did tremendously well commercially and was praised highly by critics. All of the winning combination of becoming Album of The Year. The album mostly is adored for it truthful diary-like and infectious melody. It came with no surprise when the album was release with all of the writing and composition done solely by Swift alone. Though it was not done on purpose as she did work with her co-writer, Liz Rose on a few songs, it make the album even more personal and couldn't be more delighted. I was one of many who was eagerly wanting for it to 'leak', checking every 5 minutes one day and it leaked a few hours after that (while I was sleeping). And in the first listen, I was not disappointed. Songs like Enchanted, Long Live and Dear John quickly reel me in. It was clear that Taylor advantage was in her ballads though there was a few faster song that grab my intentions. And it was the pre-release singles, Speak Now & Mean. The meaningful lyrics mixed with Taylor attitude singing it just kept me clicking the play button again and again. It was hard to resist abused listening to all of the songs, that got better in every listen. As years pass, she will get older and she will keep making even more mature music and someday we might even be hearing her singing about her husband and her first child. But I just knew that she will keep on making more personal music for her fans and the generations coming.
[I Don't Mind Being Thanks]
