Artist Of The Month: Avril Lavigne

Winning over 80% of the votes is Avril Lavigne. So she is this month ARTIST OF THE MONTH. As usual here's is what to expect from her fourth studio album, "Goodbye Lullaby".

Lavigne described the album as being about "life". She stated, "It's so easy for me to do a boy-bashing pop song, but to sit down and write honestly about something that's really close to me, something I've been through, it's a totally different thing." The album is expected to be a return to Lavigne's older musical style and may be largely acoustic. With the exception of the album's lead single, Lavigne describes the songs on the album as different from her earlier material, "I'm older now, so I think that comes across in my music, it's not as pop-rock and it's a little more mellow and it's deep". She said, "[For] this record, I just really, really wanted to sing.... I just wanna have silence around me, and have these acoustic songs and really deliver." In November 2010, British producerAlex Da Kid, who worked with Lavigne as of August 2010, stated that some songs on the album will have a hip-hop sound. "We've got some things that are hip-hop leaning, and we've got some things that are more pop/rock leaning". In December 2010, it was announced that the songs produced by Alex Da Kid would not be on the album but Lavigne stated, regarding the songs he worked on, "we’re gonna do something with that stuff, I’m just not sure what yet".
Lavigne described the first single off the album, "What the Hell", as "a broad message about personal freedom", calling it her "most pop track on the record", the least personal song from the album and the song most reminiscent of her previous work. Another track, "Stop Standing There", has been described as having an "early- '50s girl-group feel" and "Smile" is about Lavigne's gratitude for special people in her life. "Push" is about relationships and "Wish You Were Here" shows Lavigne's vulnerable side. Lavigne described the track "Everybody Hurts" as "different…but not different to stray away from who I am and what I am." "Goodbye", one of the two songs Lavigne wrote and produced on her own, is about moving on in life. Lavigne stated that "Goodbye" is the most personal song on the album and was the inspiration for the album's title.

P.S. Arist of The Month poll is up so please vote!!!

Flares: Adele - 21

With a top-notch production team behind the album, including Rick Rubin and Paul Epworth, every track is a highlight. Current single, Rolling in the Deep, is a modern soul stomper about an errant ex; the literally banging Rumour Has It channels the avenging rock‘n’roll soul of Wanda Jackson; there’s a fine, mellow, acoustic bossa nova-y take on The Cure’s Lovesong. Don’t You Remember is a classically styled ballad, which feels like the sort of tune you’ve known all your life – many are certain to bawl along to it the next time their hearts are broken; and the blues-bruised I’ll Be Waiting could’ve come from any Willie Mitchell-produced southern soul session. Final track Someone Like You, just voice and piano, is an actual thing of beauty, placing the listener in one of those moments where you feel you’re in the presence of a future standard. You can imagine it being both honked through by talent show contestants and transcended by veterans alike.
21 is simply stunning. After only a handful of plays, it feels like you’ve always known it. It is a progressive, grown-up second collection, it ought to ensure Adele is around for 23, 25, 27 and beyond.

Song: Jennifer Hudson - Where You At

After winning a Grammy for Best R&B Album for her self-tittled debut album at the 2009 Grammys, Jennifer Hudson have gotten back to the studio and is ready to be releasing her sophomore effort, I Remember Me. The album is schedule to be release on March 22. With writer and producers like Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, Ne-Yo and Stargate, there is no reason for a flop. The first single of the album is Where You At. It's not so much different from what we had heard before from her but its' a nice R&B song that hopefully will find success in Adult Contemporary radio.

Album: Anna Calvi - Anna Calvi

Anna Calvi is the self-titled debut album by Anna Calvi, released on 17th January 2011.

Co-produced by Rob Ellis and recorded in London and France, Anna Calvi’s debut is an astonishingly confident record; the unique strengths of her songwriting, singing and guitar playing all jumping out of the speaker together.

Track Listing:
1 – Rider To The Sea
2 – No More Words
3 – Desire
4 – Suzanne and I
5 – First We Kiss
6 – The Devil
7 – Blackout
8 – I’ll Be Your Man
9 – Morning Light
10 – Love Wont Be Leaving

Author's Note: When I got this, I didn't know what to expect. But I'm sure with that beautiful cover, I'm sure you'll be very interested of knowing what kind of music Anna does. Well, you should expect pop-soul singers like Adele or Duffy. But a more rough and much more theatrical. The key point in this album is Anna's voice and especially the wonderful production done on it.

Song: Nicole Scherzinger - Don't Hold Your Breath

It have been confirmed recently that Nicole's debut studio album is going to be release in March along with other big releases. It going to be a big fight for her as her first single, Poison have not yet impact the modern day radio. But reached a peak on 3. in the UK. So she is not looking back and continues with the second single, Don't Hold Your Breath. The single is going back to the PCD upbeat ballads roots such as I Hate This Part and Stickwitu. It's something I expected and look up for from the album. And the song delivers. But still I'm not sure if it will be a success. Though I'm excited for the album but I still wish she just go back into PCD. It will be more of a success than becoming a solo.
